ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: An insulating girder comprises a pair of stringer boards presenting a rectangular space therebetween and a pair of flange plates closing the upper and lower edges of the space whereby the entire lateral extent of the space is confined. The flange plates are each configured to present a pair of longitudinally extending U-shaped elements for receiving the edges of the boards and the elements each present a pressure deformable outside leg strip which extends longitudinally along the outer surface of the board whose edge portion is received therein. A plurality of indentations are formed in each of the leg strips so as to protrude inwardly and penetrate into the outer surface of the board edge portion a sufficient distance to cause the same to resist shearing and other forces that might be exerted on the girder. Thus, the girder is structurally sound and suitable for load bearing usage. The method for manufacturing the girder consists essentially of the provision of forming rolls and co- operating embossing rolls for pressing the indentation laterally into the flange as the girder being assembled is moved longitudi- nally.
