Abstract Disclosed are insulating refractory and method for containing a molten metal such as molten aluminum in an insulating castable or moldable having more than about 2% by weight borosilicate frit inhibitor, the inhibitor containing less than a predominant component of zinc or zinc compound. Insulating refractory properties and resistance to molten metal are provided.
