An insulation product (100) is provided comprising an insulation mat (10) comprising randomly oriented fibers. The mat (10) has first and second major surfaces (12, 13) and a pair of side portions (14, 15). A vapor retardant facing layer (17) is bonded to at least one of the major surfaces (12, 13) of the mat (10). The facing layer (17) has a fiber orientation such that the facing layer (17) has a ratio of machine direction tensile strength to cross machine direction tensile strength which permits the facing layer (17) to be separated by hand along a substantially straight line selected in the machine direction.
