The invention relates to a method for integrally joining bodies (41, 50, 51, 65, 66) by thermally melting a joining element (1, 20, 30, 52, 67, 75, 80). The joint element (1, 20, 30, 52, 67, 75, 80) acts on and penetrates a surface (4, 40, 59) of one of the bodies (41, 50, 51, 65, 66) with a directed force (F). Once the surface has been penetrated, mechanical excitation is generated in such a way that the joint element continues to advance as a result of the directed force (F) and the melting is maintained with the mechanical excitement while the joint element (1, 20, 30, 52, 67, 75, 80) continues to penetrate the body (41, 50, 51, 65, 66). The melted material is hereby hydraulically forced into the bodies (41, 50, 51, 65, 66).
