An apparatus (102) and a method for aligning an optical fiber (120) with an optoelectronic device (112) inside an optoelectronic package (102) using an internal automated micro-aligner (10) and internal solder heater means (122) for locking the optical fiber (120) in a precisely aligned position with the optoelectronic device (112). The system includes a microprocessor having a monitor and an input device. The microprocessor controls the alignment of the optical fiber and electrical current supplied to the resistor. The microprocessor also receives data from an instrument that measures the amount of light transmitted between the optical fiber and the optoelectronic device, and this data is analyzed by the microprocessor and appropriate command signals are sent from the microprocessor to the micro-aligner subsystem to automatically control the micro-aligner subsystem such that the optical fiber is micro-positioned so as to increase the amount of light passing between the optical fiber and the optoelectronic device while the solder preform is in a molten state.

Cette invention a trait à un appareil (102) et à la technique correspondante permettant d'aligner une fibre (120) avec un dispositif optoélectronique (112) à l'intérieur d'un boîtier optoélectronique (102) au moyen d'un équipement de micro-alignement automatisé et de chauffage-soudage (122) internes servant à assujettir la fibre optique (120) exactement dans l'alignement du dispositif optoélectronique (112). L'appareil comporte un microprocesseur pourvu d'un écran de visualisation et d'un périphérique d'entrée. Le microprocesseur agit sur l'alignement de la fibre optique et commande le courant électrique fourni à la résistance. Il reçoit également des données émanant d'un instrument mesurant la quantité de lumière transitant entre la fibre optique et le dispositif optoélectronique. Il analyse ces données et envoie des signaux de commande appropriés au sous-système de micro-alignement, lesquels signaux commandent automatiquement ce sous-système qui micro-positionne la fibre optique de manière à augmenter la quantité de lumière transitant entre la fibre optique et le dispositif optoélectronique alors que la préforme de soudage se trouve à l'état fondu.
