A computer-implemented integrated performance support system is described. The integrated performance support system uses a predefined message protocol for sending user support request messages from computer-implemented user applications to a performance support engine which retrieves performance support information from one or more databases and presents it to the user. The integration permits multiple application support and cross-training for an individual who must use more than one computer-implemented tool to perform a job function. The advantage is a standard for integrating a user support environment with more than one product, allowing simple and standardized inclusion of new products and support methods into the environment.
