Alcohols, ethers, and olefins are manufactured from alkanes by mixing an alkane and bromine in a reactor to form alkyl bromide and hydrogen bromide. The alkyl bromide only or the alkyl bromide and the hydrogen bromide are directed into contact with metal oxide to form an alcohol and/or an ether, or an olefin and metal bromide. The metal bromide is oxidized to form original metal oxide and bromine, both of which are recycled.

Selon la présente invention, on fabrique des alcools, des éthers et des oléfines à partir d'alcanes en mélangeant un alcane et du brome dans un réacteur afin d'obtenir du bromure d'alkyle et du bromure d'hydrogène. On amène ensuite le bromure d'alkyle seul ou le bromure d'alkyle et le bromure d'hydrogène en contact avec un oxyde métallique afin d'obtenir un alcool et/ou un éther, ou une oléfine et du bromure métallique. On oxyde ensuite le bromure métallique afin d'obtenir l'oxyde métallique d'origine et du brome, qui sont tous deux recyclés.
