ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides an ISDN subscriber line comprising an exchange terminal sending a training pulse for frame synchronization and bit synchronization, and connected to receive signals from a host device. A network terminal is connected to the exchange terminal, for providing signals to and receiving signals from the exchange terminal. Terminal equipment is connected to the network terminal and a discriminating circuit for discriminating maintenance signals is provided. The device further comprises a circuit for outputting the maintenance signals; and control means for selecting one of the maintenance signals to be output in accordance with one of a signal which provide instructions to the exchange terminal from the host device and a maintenance signal output from the network terminal, the control means selecting a maintenance signal and the output circuit outputting the selected maintenance signal to the network terminal in accordance with one of the output signals from the network terminal and a signal from the host device.
