Networks, devices and methods related to wireless networking. A wireless network using nodes that perform both distribution and backhaul functions is provided. These nodes constitute the key elements of a wireless network that would be deployed and controlled by a wireless network operator. Each node contains a distribution wireless module which is wirelessly coupled to the wireless end user device using a point to multipoint scheme. Also integrated into each node is at least one backhaul wireless module with a directional wireless antenna. Each backhaul wireless module communicates by way of a point to point wireless link with the backhaul module of one other node. The nodes in the wireless network are interconnected to form a mesh backhaul network. Because of the nature of a mesh network, data traffic can be routed around obstacles that may prevent line of site links. Furthermore, the mesh network allows dynamic routing of data traffic to avoid congestion points or downed links in the network.

L'invention concerne un réseau sans fil mettant en application des noeuds remplissant à la fois des fonctions de distribution et de raccordement. Ces noeuds constituent les éléments clés d'un réseau sans fil qui serait développé et contrôlé par un opérateur de réseau sans fil. Chaque noeud contient un module de distribution sans fil couplé au dispositif sans fil de l'utilisateur final au moyen d'une conception point-à-multipoint. Chaque noeud intègre également au moins un module sans fil de raccordement comportant une antenne directionnelle sans fil. Chaque module de raccordement communique au moyen d'une liaison radio point-à-point avec le module de raccordement d'un autre noeud. Les noeuds du réseau sans fil sont interconnectés, de manière à créer un réseau de raccordement maillé. Etant donné la nature de ce dernier, il est possible de détourner le trafic de données autour d'obstacles susceptibles d'empêcher des liaisons à portée optique. De plus, ce réseau maillé permet d'effectuer l'acheminement dynamique de trafic de données afin d'éviter des points d'encombrement ou des liaisons invalides dans le réseau.
