A work platform system for and a method of constructing large enclosures from the inside are described in various embodiments, some of which are also useful for maintenance. The system is a novel combination of parts that when integrated with a frame for a large enclosure, such as a boiler, permits heavy modules and components of the enclosure to be lifted and placed using the platform, which may be accessed at working elevation and facilitates welding and other operations that connect those modules and components to form the enclosure. Advantages include increased safety for workers and higher quality of construction.
