The detection and cancellation of echo in a communications system is enhanced by taking advantage of the accumulated knowledge relating to the echo path delay that an adaptive filter acquires as a result of its adaptation process. Such knowledge improves significantly the ability of an associated Near-End-Speech (NES) detector to detect for the presence of near end speech.

La détection et l'annulation de l'écho dans un système de communication sont améliorées en tirant parti des connaissances accumulées par un filtre adaptatif au sujet du retard par trajet d'écho suite à son processus d'adaptation. De telles connaissances améliorent grandement la capacité d'un détecteur de parole à l'extrémité proche à détecter la présence de la parole à l'extrémité proche.
