A method is provided for communicating between software agents in a multi- agent system. Communication between agents is defined by means of a conversation model comprising a sequence of defined tasks which, when executed by a software agent, implement one or more roles in an inter-agent conversation. A software agent is provided which, when executed on a computer, is arranged to implement the method, in particular to receive a conversation model, for example one not previously known to the agent, to identify the ontology items used in the conversation model with respect to a defined role to be implemented by the software agent, to determine whether the agent is capable of providing or processing each of the identified ontology items, and if capable, to execute the tasks defined in the conversation model to implement the role.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant à des agents de communiquer entre eux dans un système multi-agents. La communication entre les agents est définie par un modèle de conversation comprenant une séquence de tâches définies qui, lorsqu'elles sont exécutées par un agent logiciel, mettent en application un ou plusieurs rôles dans une conversation entre agents. Un agent logiciel prévu permet, lorsqu'il est exécuté sur un ordinateur, de mettre en oeuvre le procédé, en particulier : de recevoir un modèle de conversation, par exemple un modèle jusqu'alors inconnu de l'agent ; d'identifier les articles d'ontologie utilisés dans le modèle de conversation par rapport à un rôle défini devant être mis en application par l'agent logiciel ; de déterminer si l'agent peut fournir ou traiter chacun des articles d'ontologie identifiés et, le cas échéant, d'exécuter les tâches définies dans le modèle de conversation afin de mettre en application ledit rôle.
