2084888 9119502 PCTABS00008 The present invention relates to compositions and methods for reducing or controlling inflammation and for treating inflammatory disease processes and other pathological conditions mediated by intercellular adhesion. Compositions which selectively bind a selectin receptor and which have at least one selectin-binding moiety are provided by the present invention. The selectin-binding moieties have the general formula: R1-Gal.beta.1,4(Fuc.alpha.1,3)GlcNAc-(R2)a wherein R1 is an oligosaccharide or R3-R4-C(CO2H)-, wherein R3 and R4 are the same or different and are -H, -C1-C8 alkyl, -hydroxyl C1-C8 alkyl, -aryl C1-C8 alkyl, or -alkoxy C1-C8 alkyl; wherein R2 is .beta.l, 3Gal, .alpha.1, 2Man or .alpha.1, 6GalNac and a is 0 or 1.
