Abstract An interface 1 between a tool carrier 5 and a clamping shaft 3 of a machine tool holding the tool carrier is proposed comprising a hollow fitting pivot 7 which is provided at the tool carrier and is provided with a first clamping surface 19 on its inner wall, comprising a recess 9 provided at the front wall 73 of the clamping shaft for receiving the fitting pivot, a clamping member 37 is arranged in this recess 9 and is axially displaceable inside the clamping pivot, the clamping member 37 is provided on its outer side with a second clamping surface 71 cooperating with the first clamping surface via clamping elements 69 which are arranged on the outside of the clamping member, can be swiveled out radially by the clamping member against a resilient restoring force, and can be made to engage with the first and second clamping surfaces, characterized in that the clamping elements 69 are arranged at the circumference of the clamping member constructed as clamping pin 37 so as to be freely movable in the axial direction and are pressed between the second clamping surface of the clamping pin and the first clamping surface in the fitting pivot during a displacement of the clamping member in the clamping direction, so that the two parts 3; 5 assigned to the interface 1 are securely clamped together.
