Embodiments of this invention include the design of highly compact Mach- Zehnder interferometers and the resulting optics filters and DWDM wavelength interleavers by planar waveguide technology rendering ai highly compact characterictic-footprint even for highly asymmetrical design configurations. Such highly compact footprint makes the resulting devices and circuits amenable to large scale integration with minimum integrated optics wafer occupancy.
