2087979 9201465 PCTABS00010 IL-8 inhibited HRF-induced histamine release from basophils obtained from 17 donors of 20 donors at concentrations as low as 10-9 to 10-8M. The inhibition of histamine release by IL-8 was significantly higher in normal subjects than in allergic patients (59 ± 8 % vs 31 ± 7 %, p<0.04). IL-8 inhibited only cytokine-induced histamine release, and does not affect histamine release by anti-IgE, FMLP and C5a. A method for inhibiting release of allergic mediators with interleukin 8 is claimed.
