ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed are novel 2-pyrrolidone derivatives (VII): Image useful for the production of compounds (I) Image (I) (wherein W represents halogen; and R represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy or a lower alkynyl group or a group of the formula: -(CH2)n-X (VIII) wherein X represents a phenyl or a hydroxyl group or a group of the formula: Image (IX) wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; and n represents an integer of 1 or 2). These compounds (I) are useful as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antithermic agent.
