Abstract INTERMEDIATE PRODUCTS FOR THE PREPARATION OF Z-CEPHALOSPORINS Highly active substantially pure Z-isomers of cephalosporins are produced by the following synthesis: Image (IX) (X) Image (XI) (XII) Image (XIII) (XIV) (XIV) Image (XIII) (XIV) Image (XIII) Image Image ( XV ) ( XVI) Image Image (XVII ) (XVIII ) in which Rl, R4 and R5 are various organic radicals, R2 is alkoxycarbonyl, Y is C1, Br or -O-So2-R5, and X is a conventional cephalosporin substituent. Many of the intermediates are new, especially in pure Z-form.
