ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A compound of the general formula: Image wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R4 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; X is a CH group or a nitrogen atom; Y is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; and Z is a trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy or 1,1,2,2-teyrafluoroethoxy group, A is CHO group, a -CH=CHCOCH3 group, a -CH=CHCOOR7 group wherein R7 is a (C1-C4)alkyl group a Image group wherein R5 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and when R5 is a hydrogen atom, R6 is a hydrogen atom or a (C1- C4)alkoxycarbonyl group, and when R5 is a methyl group, R6 is a hydrogen atom, or a Image group wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom, a (C1-C6)alkyl or (C1-C4)alkoxymethyl group and R5 and R6 are described above. The compounds are intermediates for further intermediates for preparing herbicides. A process for preparing the compounds is also disclosed.
