ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A compound of the general formula: Image wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom, a (C1-C6)alkyl or (C1- C4)alkoxymethyl group; R3 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R4 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R5 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and when R5 is a hydrogen atom, R6 is a hydrogen atom or a (C1-C4)alkoxycarbonyl group, and when R5 is a methyl group, R6 is a hydrogen atom; X is a CH group or a nitrogen atom; Y is a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; Z is a trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy or 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethoxy group; and n is an integer of 0, 1 or 2; and a method of preparing the compounds wherein n is 1 or 2, by oxidizing the corresponding compound wherein n is O. These compounds are intermediates for the preparation of herbicides of general formula: Image wherein R1, R3, R4, R5, R6, X, Y, Z and n are as defined above, and R2 is as defined in the disclosure.
