Abstract of the Disclosure Novel compounds of the formula: Image (wherein (XVI) R1 represents alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical, R2 represents CO2R3, R3 represents alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, aryl or heterocylic radical, and R5 represents alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, aryl or heterocylic radical) are useful intermediates for producing cephalosporin compounds and are produced by reacting Z-acids or the formula: Image (XIII) with a compound of the formula: Z-SO2R5 (in which Z represents Cl, Br, or -O-SO2-R5).
