ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE New 3-aryl-3-desoxyphthalimidines of the formula Image wherein Z is H, C1-C10 alkyl, halo, C1-C10 alkoxy, trifluoro- methyl, hydroxy, C1-C10 alkanoyloxy, or C1-C10 alkanoylamino; Y is H, C1-C10 alkyl, halo, C1-C10 alkoxy, trifluoro- methyl, hydroxy, C1-C10 alkanoyloxy, or C1-C10 alkanoylamino; X is F, C1, Br or NR1R2 in which R1 and R2 are inde- pendently H, C1-C10 alkyl, C2-C10 alkenyl, C2-C10 alkynyl, C3- C10 cycloalkyl, C6-C10 aryl or C7-C10 aralkyl; and R is C1-C10 alkyl, C3-C10 cycloalkyl or C7-C10 aralkyl. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of corresponding compounds which have pharmaceutical use in the treatment of renal cardiovascular disorders.
