K 364 ABSTRACT Novel intermediates in the manufacture of pyrethroid insecticides have the following general formula:- Image wherein R1 is an alkyl group and X is a halogen atom. The compounds preferably have the same stereoisomeric form as the cyclopropane ring present in (+)-3-carene. They can be prepared by reacting 2-(2,2-dihalovinyl-3,3-dimethylcyclopropyl)ethanal with an alkanoic acid anhydride, the ethanal compound being preferably derived from (+)-3-carene.
