A method of anion or cation analysis by ion chromatography (10) by chromatographic separation of ionic species in a sample solution in an eluent comprising an electrolyte using electrolytic chemical regeneration of the suppressor (11) by applying an electrical potential across the flow channels of a membrane suppressor (11), and detection (12) of the ionic species, the improvement comprising applying said electrical potential for a sufficient time to regenerate said suppressor (11), but discontinuing application of the electrical potential during separation and detection of the anions or cations, thereby reducing background noise concomitant to said electrical potential.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil utilisant la suppression des éluants pour l'analyse d'anions ou de cations en chromatographie ionique. L'invention concerne l'application intermittente d'un champ électrique durant la suppression électrochimique pour minimiser le bruit de fond durant la détection d'une espèce ionique provoqué par l'application d'un champ électrique, en utilisant une membrane électrolytique comme suppresseur. Ce système électrochimique suppresseur intermittent permet la détection de l'analyte en l'absence du champ électrique. Le système est particulièrement utile pour diminuer le bruit de fond créé durant la suppression électrochimique et pour réduire les interférences au niveaude la ligne de base quand on analyse des échantillons contenant un solvant.
