868.00007 ABSTRACT Problems with loading/unloading of intermodal containers (64) from vehicles at remote locations are eliminated in a loader/unloader including a vehicle frame (20) having an end (30) and wheels (22) on the frame for supporting the frame (20) for movement along the underlying terrain (24). A roller carriage (60) is pivoted to the frame (20) at the end (30) for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis and has rollers (62) for engaging the underside of an intermodal container (64) and allowing the same to be loaded/unloaded on/off the frame (20). An articulated boom (32) is located on the frame (20) and includes a tilt arm (34) pivoted to a secondary boom (40) for movement toward and away from the end (20). Hydraulic cylinders (46, 54) are provided for moving the tilt arm (34) relative to the secondary boom (40) and for moving the secondary boom (40) relative to the frame (20). A spider (70) is pivoted to the tilt arm (34) remote from the secondary boom (40) and is movable by the tilt arm (34) toward and away from the end (30). A plurality of latches (104, 108) are located on the spider (70) and engagable with respective apertured fittings (106, 114) on the container (64). By operation of the cylinders (46, 54), an intermodal container (64) may be engaged by the latches (104, 108) and moved on or off a frame (20).
