An engine having a rotor including slots distributed about its circumferential surface and combustion chambers located between the slots. The engine also includes vanes each rollably disposed in a respective slot and a block for receiving the rotor. First and second side cover arrangements are connected to opposite sides of the block. First and second roller cams are each arranged on an inner side of a respective one of the cover arrangements. Cam rollers are rotatably mounted on opposite side edges of each vane in order to control radial movement of their respective vane. These rollers include two first cam rollers and two second cam rollers mounted on opposite side edges of each vane.
