An internal combustion engine operates on a four-stroke cycle and includes a housing defining: one or more generally wedge-shaped combustion chambers, and an internal cavity in which a wheel is mounted for rotation on a crankshaft. Arranged inside each combustion chamber is a gate, with each gate having a corresponding gate control assembly including a control shaft. Each control shaft is supported by bearings that engage and ride in a generally elliptical cam-cutout defined in the surface of the wheel. Movement of the gate control assemblies within and with respect to the elliptical cam-cutout controls the movement and operation of the gates, such that, as the wheel rotates, a fuel/air mixture is drawn into a combustion chamber; compressed by the rotating movement of a gate; and ignited, imparting a force on the gate, with the gate then rotating to expel combustion gases through an exhaust port.

L'invention concerne un moteur à combustion interne qui fonctionne selon un cycle à quatre temps et comprend un corps délimitant: une ou plusieurs chambres de combustion généralement en forme de coin et une cavité interne dans laquelle une roue est montée pour tourner sur un vilebrequin. Une porte est disposée à l'intérieur de chaque chambre de combustion, chaque porte ayant son ensemble commande de porte respectif qui comprend un arbre de commande. Chaque arbre de commande est porté par des paliers qui viennent au contact de et suivent une échancrure-came généralement elliptique découpée dans la surface de la roue. Le mouvement des ensembles commande de porte à l'intérieur de et par rapport à l'échancrure-came elliptique commande le mouvement et le fonctionnement des portes de sorte que, lorsque la roue tourne, un mélange carburant/air est: aspiré dans la chambre de combustion; comprimé par le mouvement de rotation d'une porte; et allumé, transmettant ainsi une force à la porte, la porte tournant alors pour expulser les gaz de combustion par un orifice d'échappement.
