A high thermal efficiency lean-burn spark-ignition two or four stroke engine operable unthrottled suitable for vehicles using gasoline. It uses an indirect combustion chamber and a transfer orifice with shaping of the combustion chamber to produce a jet of air moving in helical swirl motion around the chamber during the compression stroke. Fuel is injected into the chamber aimed into the air jet to assist rapid vaporisation. The position and orientation of the fuel injector ensures that fuel arrives near the spark plug even under idling conditions and the helical swirl flow ensures the stratification of the ignitable mixture formed near the plug. The compression ratio of the engine can also be variable and a second fuel injector can be provided.
L'invention concerne un moteur à deux ou quatre temps, à allumage par bougie et charge stratifiée, à haut rendement thermique, capable de fonctionner sans papillon et convenant à des véhicules fonctionnant à l'essence. Le moteur de l'invention utilise une préchambre de combustion et un orifice de transfert, la forme de la chambre de combustion étant telle qu'elle produit un jet d'air se déplaçant avec un mouvement tourbillonnant hélicoïdal autour de la chambre pendant la course de compression. Le carburant est injecté dans la chambre en visant l'intérieur du jet d'air pour contribuer à une vaporisation rapide. La position et l'orientation de l'injecteur de carburant assurent l'arrivée du carburant près de la bougie d'allumage même dans les conditions du ralenti et l'écoulement tourbillonnant hélicoïdal assure la stratification du mélange inflammable formé près de la bougie. Le taux de compression du moteur peut également être variable et un deuxième injecteur de carburant peut être installé.
