This invention concerns an internal combustion engine with controlled ignition comprising at least one cylinder in which a piston slides along the axis of the cylinder, a head on top of the cylinder and delimiting with the piston and cylinder a combustion chamber, the piston comprising a cavity (or bowl) open towards the cylinder head. The said cavity has at least one volume of ellipsoid cross-section in the crosswise plane of the piston, of which the major axis and generatrices are essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the piston, so as to reduce in the combustion chamber the ratios of surface to volume, and to increase the levels of turbulence at the end of the compression cycle. According to the invention, the ellipse(s) is (are) such that: (see fig. 1) GR being the large radius of at least one of the volumes, PR being the small radius of the said volume(s). La présente invention a pour objet un moteur à combustion interne à allumage commandé comprenant au moins un cylindre dans lequel coulisse un piston selon l'axe du cylindre, une culasse surmontant le cylindre et délimitant avec le piston et le cylindre une chambre de combustion, le piston comprenant une cavité (ou bol) ouverte vers la culasse. Ladite cavité présente au moins un volume de section ellipsoïde selon un plan transversal du piston, dont l'axe principal et les génératrices sont essentiellement parallèles à l'axe longitudinal du piston, afin de réduire dans la chambre de combustion les rapports entre surface et volume, et d'augmenter les niveaux de turbulence en fin du cycle de compression. Selon l'invention la (ou les) ellipses sont telles que: (voir fig. 1) G R étant le grand rayon de l'un au moins des volumes P R étant le petit rayon dudit (ou desdits) volumes. Figure 2 à publier.
