ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An internal combustion engine, including an exhaust pipe, comprising a decelerator retarder utilizing oil and a heat exchanger for recooling the decelerator oil, cooling air being fed from the heat exchanger during braking, character- ized in that a closure, for shutting off the exhaust pipe, during braking, is provided in the exhaust pipe whereby a flow of gas thus backed up therein is used to deliver a flow of cooling air to the decelerator oil heat exchanger.
