ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A dual induction system has a primary induction passage to direct a fluid charge into a cylinder to swirl therein and a secondary induction passage to direct a second fluid charge into the cylinder in such a direction as to impede the swirl of the first fluid charge and lower the "swirl ratio" within the cylinder. A primary throttle valve controls the first fluid charge while a secondary throttle valve which is coordinated with the primary and remains closed until the primary opens wider than a predetermined amount, controls the second fluid charge. When only the primary throttle valve is open a high "swirl ratio" of 1.5 to 6 prevails in the cylinder while when both open the "swirl ratiol" drops to 0.5 to 1 and simulta- neously provides a high volumetric efficiency.
