Abstract of the Disclosure An engine system comprising a multi-cylinder inter- nal combustion engine with the provision of at least two spark plug spaced from each other for each combus- tion chamber and siamese exhaust ports, a tubular heat shield formed in each exhaust port at a distance from the port wall, a thermal reactor located close to the exhaust ports preferably with a secondary air supply circuit and an exhaust gas recirculation circuit for accomplishing exhaust gas recirculation at a high re- circulation rate ranging from 12-40% of the quantity of air drawn into the engine, wherein the temperature in the reactor is maintained above 800°C but below 950°C. - 1 -
