IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An internal combustion engine of the kind in which combustion is initiated in a first working fluid charge which is then brought into communication with a previously at least substantially separated fuel charge to effect ignition of the second charge. The invention is characterised in that turbulance is created in the first charge as ignition thereof takes place. The engine combustion chamber has a cavity of somewhat spherical or cylindrical configuration in which the first charge is ignited. This cavity has a curved substantially re-entrant surface and the engine is provided with a tangentially disposed channel communicating with the cavity and through which the first working fluid charge is ejected to enter the chamber so as to strike this surface to execute a rotational movement and thereby cause the turbulence. - 1 -
