ABSTRACT An internal diameter (I.D.) welding machine (21), and rotary drive and feed unit (24) therefor, is mounted via temporary brackets (19, 20) on an excavator bucket (10), the bores (15, 16) of which are to be repaired (after line boring oversize). The welding bar (22) is rotatably journalled in insulating bushes (28, 29) and has a welding head (30) (of the gas shield MIG type) with a welding tip (34). As the drive and feed unit (24) advances along a shaft (25) mounted on a bracket (27), it causes the welding bar (22) to be rotationally and long- itudinally fed through the bores (15, 16) so that the welding tip (34) lays a bead of weld material (64) spi- rally within the bores (15, 16). The welding machine (21) is removed and the line boring machine is re- installed to enable the bores (15, 16) to be machined to size.
