A method of chimney fire prevention which includes the step of installing a conduit in a chimney, the conduit having at least one spray nozzle with a heat sensitive triggering mechanism that opens the spray nozzle upon a predetermined triggering temperature being reached. A further step involves connecting the conduit to a source of fluid with fire extinguishing properties, such that upon the predetermined triggering temperature being reached fluid is released through the spray nozzle.
