A system for receiving calls at a call centre from a customer for on-site services and dispatching the instructions to a service technician over the Internet and a portable paging device. The system selects an appropriate one of a plurality of service technicians from its database based on service qualification, job site availability and dispatch history. The response time of the service provider is monitored through the transmission by the service provider of status messages at predefined stages of the service and database interrogation at the call centre for timing information.
