The invention features intranasal immunization methods for inducing immune responses in distal mucosal sites, e.g., the gastrointestinal or genitourinary tracts. The methods of the invention may be used to induce protective and/or therapeutic immune responses against pathogens (e.g., bacteria of the genus Clostridium, e.g., C. difficile) which infect these distal sites. Also included in the invention are vaccination methods in which combinations of mucosal (e.g., oral or intranasal) and parenteral (e.g., subcutaneous or intraperitoneal) routes of administration are used.
L'invention concerne des procédés d'immunisation intranasale servant à provoquer des réponses immunitaires dans des sites muqueux éloignés, par exemple, les voies gastro-intestinales et gastro-urinaires. On peut utiliser ces procédés afin de provoquer des réponses immunitaires protectrices et/ou thérapeutiques contre des pathogènes (par exemple des bactéries du genre Clostridium ou C. difficile) qui infectent ces sites éloignés. L'invention concerne également des procédés de vaccination consistant à combiner l'administration par les voies muqueuses (orale ou intranasale, par exemple) et l'administration parentérale (sous-cutanée ou intrapéritonéale).
