PATENT INTRAVASCULAR BLOOD PARAMETER SENSOR APPARATUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The intravascular blood parameter sensor apparatus includes an elongated introducer catheter and an elongated sensing catheter having a sensor region to be extended through the introducer catheter into the vasculature of the patient. At least one blood parameter sensor is disposed within the sensor region of the sensing catheter. The blood parameter sensor apparatus is positioned within a blood vessel of a patient by inserting the introducer catheter into the blood vessel at an angle relative to the blood vessel for a sufficient distance that the distal portion lies essentially parallel to the axis of the blood vessel, and extending the sensing catheter through the distal opening of the introducer catheter so that the distal sensor region extends beyond the distal opening of the introducer catheter.
