The present invention provides an intravascular catheter (50) having a single common distal lumen (58) with a reduced pro- file connected to two proximal lumens (64 and 66). The catheter (50) is loadable over a guidewire (68) into a region of interest within a patient's vascular system. To ensure that the guidewire (68) moves into the desired proximal lumen (64) a tool (100) is provided to guide the advancing guidewire (68). Furthermore, the catheter (50) is provided with an axial expandable housing (118) to shield a drive shaft (72) of work element (75).
