Abstract of the Disclosure In an intruder detector system, an image is formed at a CCD imager, the image details transferred to a CCD frame store and a further image formed at the imager. The two images are compared in a differencer and outputs produced related to any image differences. To provide for the reduced bandwidth available when using a telephone line, the outputs are processed so that only beginnings and ends of signals, which are representative of movements, are transmitted over the telephone line to a monitoring terminal. - 1 -
