ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An intrduer warning device is provided herein which is used as an adjunct, but not a replacement of, a traditional lock. It includes a first base member and a second tethered member adapted to be detachably interconnected to the first base member. Lock means are provided for engaging the tethered member to the first member. Means are provided which are for releasably and easily retaining the end of the tethered member in the first base member, such means preventing the re-entry of the tethered member into the base member when the lock means is in its locked condition. The intruder warning device is adapted to be disposed across the access door or window, and the tethered member is then inter- connected to the first base member when the entry access door or window is first closed. When the tethered member is disconnected from the first base member when the access door or window is opened, the device cannot be reset without interfering with the lock means. Thus, the intruder warning device is placed on the exterior in full view of the general populace. It is specially made easy to open but very difficult to close. Once an intruder has easily gained entry he cannot easily mask his unauthorized presence. The intruder warning device is ideally used in conjunction with a conventional lock.
