A B S T R A C T O F T H E I N V E N T I O N "INVALID HOISTS" An invalid hoist has a lifting arm 4, a sling hanger support 12 mounted to turn about a rigid vertical bearing axis V at the outer end of the arm 4 and a sling hanger 10 which is a unitary construction pivotable about a horizontal axis H relative to the support 12. The hanger 10 presents spaced sling attachment points on both sides of the axis H for connection of one pair of sling attachments 41 to one side of the axis H and for connection of a second pair of sling attachments 41 to the opposite side of the axis H. Thus the disposition of a invalid I can be changed whilst suspended on the hoist by pivotal movement of the hanger 10 about the horizontal axis H.
