ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An inventory method or system and related materials for inventories of large numbers of dissimilar items each in limited number. The items are tagged in numerical order as received and thereafter identified by tag number. Items are stored numerically by tag number with no space reserved between items. Physical inventories are taken by tag number and items are located for removal from storage by tag number. Gaps created by item removal are filled by sliding items together. Tags are two or three part elements each carrying identical numbers and progressing numberically from tag to tag. Tag parts are used for item identification, a cross reference list, a card index, computer input, etc. A novel cross reference list is also provided. The method or system is particularly adaptable to spare parts, documents, records, laboratory specimens, car- peting and many other items.
