The invention concerns a blade coater and a method for coating a web (1) backed by a rotatable backing roll (15). The blade coater unit (2) comprises a support structure (11), feed means (3, 4) mounted to the support structure (11) and capable of feeding the coating mix onto the web when brought close to the web in running conditions, and smoothing means (5) arranged to the immediate vicinity of the web (1) for the application of the fed coating mix. According to the invention the blade coater unit (2) is essentially placed below the backing roll (15), the smoothing means is a flexible blade (5) having a tip inclination angle .alpha. less than 20°, and the feeder means (4) has a narrow exit opening arranged to the stem of the flexible blade (5) without any essential steps in order to facilitate a fast, laminar flow of the coating mix. The approach in accordance with the invention achieves a coat of high quality.
Coucheuse à lame et méthode de couchage d'une bande (1) montée sur un contre-rouleau rotatif (15). La coucheuse à lame (2) comprend une structure de support (11), un dispositif d'alimentation (3, 4) monté sur la structure de support (11) et capable de distribuer la sauce de couchage sur la bande lorsqu'il est rapproché de cette dernière pendant le fonctionnement, et un dispositif lisseur (5) situé près de la bande (1), servant à appliquer la sauce de couchage. La coucheuse à lame (2) est essentiellement placée sous le contre-rouleau (15). Le dispositif lisseur est une lame flexible (5) ayant un angle d'inclinaison de tête .alpha. de moins de 20.degrés., et le dispositif d'alimentation (4) comprend une ouverture de sortie étroite placée à la base de la lame flexible (5) sans aucune étape essentielle de façon à faciliter un écoulement laminaire rapide de la sauce de couchage. L'invention assure une couche de haute qualité.
