The invention relates to separators for lithium batteries and to a method for the production and use thereof. The inventive separators for lithium batteries are based on a flat, flexible substrate provided with a plurality of openings with a porous, inorganic, electrically insulating coating disposed on and in said substrate, closing the openings of the substrate, the material of the substrate being selected from woven or non-woven electrically conductive polymer fibers and the inorganic electrically conductive coating having metal oxide particles. The inventive separators are characterized in that the separators have lithium ion conducting properties without the presence of an electrolyte. After charging with an additional lithium ion conducting electrolyte, a significantly higher conduction of ions is obtained in comparison with conventional combinations of non lithium ion conducting separators and electrolytes. The inventive separators are particularly suitable for use in high-power lithium batteries. .
L'invention concerne des séparateurs pour des batteries au lithium, ainsi qu'un procédé pour leur production et leur utilisation. Les séparateurs pour batteries au lithium selon l'invention ont pour base un substrat souple, plan et pourvu d'une multitude d'ouvertures. Un revêtement poreux, inorganique et isolant électrique est appliqué sur et dans ce substrat et ferme les ouvertures du substrat. Le matériau du substrat est sélectionné parmi des fibres polymères tissées ou non tissées, ne conduisant pas l'électricité, et le revêtement inorganique électroconducteur présente des particules d'oxyde métallique. Les séparateurs selon l'invention se caractérisent en ce qu'ils présentent des propriétés conductrices d'ions lithium en l'absence d'électrolyte. Après chargement avec un électrolyte supplémentaire conducteur d'ions lithium, on obtient une conduction ionique sensiblement supérieure à celle obtenue pour des combinaisons traditionnelles constituées de séparateurs non conducteurs d'ions et d'un électrolyte. Les séparateurs selon l'invention peuvent tout particulièrement être mis en oeuvre dans des batteries de grande capacité au lithium.
