AN ION VAPOR SOURCE FOR MASS SPECTROMETRY OF LIQUIDS Abstract A process for generating an ion vapor from a liquid sample can be used in interfacing a liquid chromatograph to a mass spectrometer. The process includes generating an aerosol from the liquid. Preferably at least a fraction of the particles in the aerosol are charged. The process includes impacting the particles against a surface which is maintained at temperature above an impact-vaporization temperature. Upon colliding with the surface the particles are vaporized and an ion vapor formed.
