ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A catalyst useful for producing substantially C2+ alkane hydrocarbons from mixtures of CO and H2 which comprises a mixture of iron carbide and ilmenite supported on titania wherein the ratio of the iron present in the supported iron carbide and ilmenite, calculated as Fe2O3, to the surface area of the titania support ranges from about 2 x 10-3 to 25 x 10-3 grams per square meter.
