ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a method of removing transition metals from a decontamination solution containing a com- plexing agent having an equilibrium constant for the ferric ion complex formation reaction of greater than 1022, such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. An anion exchange resin is loaded with the complexing agent or one of its salts, and the solution is passed through the anion exchange resin. The process is applied to decontamination solutions which are used to clean cooling systems of nuclear reactors.
