ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of preparing a stable, dilute aqueous solution of at least one 3-isothiazolone compound comprising 5-chloro-2-methyl-3- isothiazolone, the concentration of said compound(s) in said solution being about 0.5 to 5% by weight based on solution, comprising introducing about 0.1 to 5% by weight based on said solution, of a ferric salt as the stabilizer is disclosed. Dilute aqueous solutions of about 0.5 to 5.0 parts by weight of at least one 3-isothiazolone compound comprising 5-chloro-2-methyl-3- isothiazolone, about 0.1 to 2.5 parts by weight of a stabilizing, water soluble, non-chelated ferric salt, and about 92 to 99 parts by weight of aqueous solvent, also disclosed. 14
