IRON WITH OVERTEMPERATURE PROTECTION MEANS ABSTRACT An electric flatiron having an overtemperature protection assembly to open the heater circuit before high soleplate temperature occurs on thermostatic failure. The invention is a structural arrangement of circuit members including a spring biased circuit member that is held in contact with another circuit member by a fusible joint including a slug of eutectic alloy. The fusible joint is external to the electric circuit so that the operation of the overtemperature limiter is not affected by any variable joint resistance. When the fusible joint melts, it releases the spring member that is snapped out of contact to open the circuit on failure of the thermostat in the iron.
